Derek Cortvriendt

I’m entering my 10th season as part of the SLHS Girl’s Soccer Program, which I began in 2009 as the JV Head Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach for 7 seasons, and this will mark my 3rd season as the Varsity Head Coach. I’ve been a Competitive Club coach at Westminster Soccer for 15 years and during this time have earned my “C” License from United States Soccer Federation (USSF).

My wife Christine and I have been married for 28 years this coming May, and our two daughter’s Erin and Lindsey both graduated from Standley Lake.

Christine and I own and operate Colorado Swim Shop, a year round retail store in Boulder (shameless plug). I have a Master’s Degree from the University of Denver in Social Work with an emphasis in Counseling, Community and System Development and an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Metropolitan State College of Denver. Professionally I’ve worked as the Executive Director of a youth corrections halfway house that served severely delinquent and mentally ill youth and their families. I owned and operated a small photography studio for many years and have coached both soccer and basketball off and on for 30 years.

I have been married for 32 years and I have two adult children. I am a native of Arvada, Colorado and I am a veteran of the US Army where I served our country for eight years including service in South Korea and the Gulf War. I am in my 20th year of teaching high school mathematics, and I am currently teaching at Thornton high school.

I have enjoyed playing soccer my entire life and I’ve been coaching high school boys and girls soccer for almost 20 years, and I am currently the head coach for the Arvada Bulldogs boys’ soccer team. I also work for Major League Soccer as a Game Observer, and I play for a Sunday league over 45 team.

Outside of soccer I enjoy traveling, golf, racquet sports, hunting, fishing, camping, dirt biking, and spending time with friends and family.
